About

Marble

Marble is often seen as the most luxurious and one of a kind choice of stones. Taken from a large slab of rock, each piece of marble is unique, with differing swirls, veins and depth of colour. With the ability to be highly finished, marble is the most lustrous and smoothest option, and said to have an illuminating quality to it. Available in a variety of colours, marble can suit the look you are going for. Marble does however react to acidic materials meaning that more so than other stones it is important that it is sealed and maintained to ensure stains can be repelled. Being a softer stone, it is also advised that regular polishing become part of the stones long-term upkeep.

About

Granite

The toughest and most durable of the stones, Granite is the best choice for kitchen and bathroom areas where there is a higher likelihood of wear and tear and being exposed to spills. Made of a mixture of quartz and alkali feldspar, colour options can vary in pink, grey and white shades, depending on the stone’s makeup. With its coarse grain structure, when polished it too holds a unique, luminous quality like marble, but with more consistency in it’s variation. Easy to maintain and clean yourself, with an added sealant to the finish, granite will last you more than a lifetime.

About

Limestone

Highly durable and in natural abundance, limestone is a highly versatile and affordable option. This sedimentary rock available in a variety of natural shades can be cut to the shape or size you require. This key benefit provides for endless uses for internal areas and external areas, whether it be large paving stones, stepping stones, verandahs, driveways, retainer walls, fences or fireplaces. With its sturdy and neutral appearance it is the stone of choice for commercial and retail projects.

About

Terrazzo

Terrazzo is a lasting and low maintenance option perfect for internal hallways and kitchen areas. A highly durable stone made of crushed marble, quartz, granite and glass, when polished it provides a smooth and consistent finish. With a big range of colours available, Terrazzo can work with any colour theme your are going with. With a sealant added to the stone, it becomes water resistant and is a recommended flooring option for allergy sufferers.

About

Travertine

Made from Limestone, Travertine is similar to marble in providing for a luxurious impression to your room. Available in ivory, beige, walnut and gold tones, it has unique patterns which means that no two pieces look alike. This makes it easier to replace in flooring because of the constant variation through the tiles. Travertine is a softer stone which allows it to be easily cut and makes for a great choice with odd shaped rooms or corners. Because of its softness though, it is best practice to apply a sealant to protect the stone, and that cleaning and polishing becomes part of the stones maintenance schedule.

About

Sandstone

A timeless and robust stone that is highly versatile and can be used for both internal and outside areas. Available in various neutral colours, it can withstand the elements and is a tough stone that doesn’t break down or weaken over time. Because of this, it is often the choice for walls and paving in the garden. As sandstone ages, the colour and character changes, however with a professional clean it can easily be brought back to its original form.

About

Micro-Crystallization

At Carrara Stone Restoration we specialise in the Micro-crystallization process. We use world leading machinery and products imported from Europe to add crystals to your precise stone. It is a process that doesn’t use wax, which is why the final result is not slippery, non marking and with a perfect gloss. This makes the surface more resistant to abrasion and gives it a clear and transparent shine, giving your floor a crystal like appearance. Micro-crystallization can last up to three times longer than traditional sealing methods.

About

Cleaning & Polishing

Time and exposure to the elements will dull the shine of your stone over the years. To ensure the composition of your stone is not compromised we use specific cleaners and polishing agents to your type of stone. With each type of stone reacting differently to chemicals, using the correct commercial cleaning & polishing solvents, techniques and high-pressure equipment will ensure your stone won’t be left scratched or with a dull finish. With an array of different finishes that can be applied to your stone, we can achieve the look you are after, whether that be buffed, gloss or an added stain and scratch resistant.

About

Repair & Restoration

Whether it’s a chipped tile or benchtop, or a damaged wall, replacing it entirely doesn’t always have to be the only option. Upon inspection, repairs can be made to restore your stone and when combined with our cleaning and polishing services together it will have your old & new integrated into looking as one. Additional to this we can restore antique or tired pieces to their former glory and bring new life to areas like your bathroom through re-grouting services.

About

Sealing

All stone is porous, it is susceptible to staining, but regardless of the stone, applying a impregnating sealer is best common practice. Acting as an extra precaution, sealants will help repel against stains and etching and assist in your stone’s long life. We also can provide a variety of sealants depending on the situation of the stone, whether it be for safe use in kitchen preparation areas or a more robust sealant for high traffic areas.
